For emergency cases or recent sexual assault/intimate partner violence, go directly to the Cornwall Community Hospital’s Emergency Room at 840 McConnell and ask for an ASAP nurse. Self-referral to counselling is also available. Our counsellors see men and women over the age of 14 who have suffered sexual assault, intimate partner violence, or historical sexual abuse. Any person(s) can call our line directly and book an appointment for counselling if they fall within the mandate.

The Assertive Community Treatment Team is a community based, outpatient treatment program. It provides services to residents who have a serious mental illness and need ongoing intensive treatment. The team offers support and assistance in all aspects of daily living such as housing, vocational, financial, legal and medical issues. Caregivers can refer their family member to this program but the client must be willing to participate.

Child and youth mental health services provide assessment, therapy, support, counselling, group therapy and consultation for children and youth as well as parent education groups. All services are free. A mental health care plan will be created with you based on your treatment goals.

Adults can now access free Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as part of Ontario’s Increasing Access to Structured Psychotherapy (IASP) program. CBT is a goal-oriented, time-limited therapy that helps clients (18+) by teaching practical skills and strategies to manage their mental health and improve quality of life. This program for mild and moderate depression is offered in Cornwall and satellite offices around SDG. Clients work with a CBT therapist for approximately 12 sessions. Referral by doctor or nurse practitioner is required.

First Episode Psychosis: On Track

A medical referral to the First Episode Psychosis Program is required. Once an intended patient with a mood disorder such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder is identified, the individual is screened by Intake Assessment and referred to the First Episode Psychosis Program when appropriate. The goal is decrease of symptoms and community re-integration through the use of effective medications, psychoeducation, individual and family support. Patients are routinely seen in follow-up, every two weeks, while they are receiving care in this program.

A bilingual team that provides services to people living in the community. The community team sees individuals living in their homes or retirement homes and the outreach team sees individuals living in nursing homes. People 65 years and older will receive an assessment, counselling and case management, and support and education for their families

The Inpatient Mental Health Unit provides assessment, stabilization and short-term inpatient treatment for serious episodes of addiction and mental-illness. Each unit follows principles of fast stabilization, and combining behavioural management, psychological interventions and appropriate use of medications.

Outside of an emergency, access to hospital children’s mental health services is by referral. Montfort Hospital provides a broad range of mental health services for French-speaking adults living with psychosis umbrella disorders, including schizophrenia. The services of the hospital’s In-Patient Mental Health Program include assessment, treatment, and social integration. The hospital’s Outpatient Mental Health Clinic coordinates one-on-one patient care and operates a number of clinics and groups, including the Medication Clinic, Anxiety Management Group, Perinatal Psychiatry Clinic, Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic, and Group for Psychotic Disorders. The Ottawa Hospital provides a broad range of hospital-based mental health services for adults at its Civic & General campuses, along with several highly specialized community-based mental health services. The hospital’s Family Health Teams and Psychiatric Emergency Services provide front-line support to people experiencing mental illness. Physician referrals can be made to the hospital’s Regional Centre for the Treatment of Eating Disorders, Inpatient and Outpatient Mental Health Services, Acute Partial Hospitalization Day Program (supporting independent living), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (for individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder), and Community Treatment Orders (for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness who have difficulty with medication or treatment compliance). The hospital’s Mobile Crisis Team is activated by the regional Mental Health Crisis Line at 1-866-996-0991, 24 hours a day (providing a rapid mental health assessment and stabilization services on in the community).
